Best Innova Discs

Top 10 Highest-rated Innova Discs

Infinite Discs has a great feedback review system where customers can rate the discs they buy. Based on these customer reviews, here are what the fans say are the best Innova discs:

  1. FirebirdFlight Numbers = 9, 3, 0, 4 – The Firebird is a very overstable fairway driver that is loved for forehand shots because it is very torque-resistant (this helps the disc stay straight on forehands initially instead of turning a lot, often into the ground). It always hooks very far to the right (for right-hand forehand throws) or very far to the left (for right-hand backhand throws) at the end of its flight. This disc has a huge cult-following as it is many people’s all-time favorite and one of the best Innova discs ever made!  Nate Sexton’s Tour Series Firebirds are among the most sought-after and valuable discs on the market. Some firebirds are going for $1,600 to even $3,500 for a single disc! These are the most popular Firebirds because they have awesome stamps, Nate Sexton is a fan-favorite player/commentator, they come in Innova’s Champion Glow plastic which is very nice looking and feeling, and they tend to be a little straighter and less stable than other Firebirds. This is a combination fans love! Personally, I bag Dynamic Discs felon for this slot simply because I have had one since I started playing disc golf and it is beat into perfection (how a Sexton Firebird flies). If it weren’t for my precious Felon I would probably be bagging a Firebird for this overstable fairway slot. To date, 143 fans have reviewed this disc on infinitediscs.com giving it an average rating of 4.80 STARS
  2. RocFlight Numbers = 4, 4, 0, 3 – The Roc is a classic, and truly an amazing disc. Created by one of Disc Golf’s “OGs” Dave Dunipace (the Founder and CEO of Innova) in 1987, the Roc revolutionized discs because it was the first to have a bead on the bottom. Dave added this because back then plastics were softer and beat in quickly. So, the bead was created in an effort to help the disc retain its flight characteristics longer. Also, some people love the feel of a bead on the bottom and these people can thank Dave and this disc for the beaded feel they love. The flight of this disc starts off very straight but it always has a dependable fade that us disc golfers heavily rely on and love. Once you have had your Roc for a while the flight only improves with more turn and less fade (but always dependable enough fade). Personally, I love the flight, but I just don’t personally like the feel of a bead in my hand. I bag a Discraft Buzzz because I prefer the feel of the Buzzz, but I still do prefer the Roc’s flight path over the Buzzz. It’s an amazing disc and one that every disc golfer should try or at least try to get their hands on. If you like the feel of this disc I promise you’ll like the flight! 92 Reviewers have rated this an average 4.76 STARS
  3. WraithFlight Numbers = 11, 5, -1, 3 – The Wraith AKA “another fan favorite and many people’s favorite distance driver. Because it is a little slower (with a rim that isn’t as wide as a Destroyer) it flies better for people that aren’t pros because you get more high-speed turn out of the disc. Also, it also feels a little better in your hand for most people than the wider-rimmed Destroyer does. Unfortunately, some Wraiths are more stable than others, but if you get one that isn’t too overstable you’re really in luck and will absolutely love this disc. If you want one that isn’t crazy overstable look for one that has more dome to it as opposed to a flat top. The most important factor in finding one that isn’t too overstable is finding one with a lower parting line (the parting line is where the top of the disc mold meets the bottom). The lower the parting line the more air goes over top and more lift/turn the disc will get. If the parting line is too high more air will go under the disc creating upward lift on the front of the disc making it more overstable and have more fade. With this mold I personally have found the flatter the Wraith the more overstable so look for a domey one and you’ll be gaining distance. The Wraith flies fast and far and dependable. What more do you want out of a disc? It is no surprise that this is a Top 3 favorite Innova mold for fans and that 233 reviewers have given the Wraith an average of 4.75 STARS
  4. Mako3Flight Numbers = 5, 5, 0, 0 – The Mako3 is a very straight flyer… probably the straightest 5-speed midrange I have ever thrown. It really does not fade it just gets on a line and stays on that line straight until it hits the ground. Personally, this disc is a little deep for my personal taste, but the flights are beautiful. I can see why this disc is so highly rated by the general public. I currently bag a discraft Buzzz in this slot in my bag because I like the lower profile of the Buzzz over the deeper feel of the Mako3, but granted the Buzzz moves right and left whereas the Mako3 moves on a tight rope. I still need to beat in my Buzzz more to get this super straight flight. So far, 241 fans have given this disc an average rating of 4.75 STARS
  5. PigFlight Numbers = 4, 1, 0, 3 – The Pig is a reliably overstable approach disc that feels great both backhand and forehand due to its unique track on top. Also, the added weight on the outside of the disc makes it torque resistant and great for forehands. This is a great disc made very popular by Ricky Wysocki when he was sponsored by Innova and could throw pigs all over courses across the country. The Pig can save you strokes on approaches, and I highly recommend it. Personally, I bag a Berg which surprisingly has less glide, but I do like the pig’s feel better than the Berg. Perhaps I should go back to the Pig. I probably will revisit this slot and perhaps the Pig will win out but for now the Berg is working for me. 74 people have rated the Pig an average of 4.75 STARS
  6. TeebirdFlight Numbers = 7, 5, 0, 2 – Every disc golfer recommends a disc like the Teebird in your bag because it is so useful. It is dependable and won’t turn over too much in a headwind. You’ll get consistent distance and finishes with straight flights that fade out dependably at the end. The Teebird is such a great disc that since its invention almost all big disc golf manufacturers have tried to make a 7, 5, 0, 2 replica of the Teebird. It is a very useful in every disc golfers bag because you can control it, but it is fast enough to pretty far. Then, it always hooks up as it slows and finishes strong towards your target. If you are forehand predominant player or have decent power I recommend trying a Teebird. If you do you’ll probably reach for it very often. 171 reviewers have provided an average rating of 4.73 STARS
  7. Teebird3Flight Numbers = 8, 4, 0, 2 – Innova sometimes retools popular discs to be a little faster and adds a 3 to the name. This is the case with the popular Teebird. The Teebird 3 is slightly faster with a flatter top making it have less drag and go a little faster down the fairway. Perhaps you may like or prefer 8-speed discs over 7-speed, and if that is the case then you are in luck with this disc. If you are new to the sport you probably should start with a Teebird, but if you have the arm speed Teebird3 could be preferable. 71 people give the Teebird3 4.69 STARS
  8. ThunderbirdFlight Numbers = 9, 5, 0, 2 – Innova describes this as a reliable fairway driver that is less overstable as a Firebird. Unfortunately, my one and only Thunderbird is a beefcake and even more stable than a Firebird. I think it is because it is too flat in combination with a very high parting line. If you can find a domey Thunderbird (more dome usually creates more high-speed turn) I think you’ll get what Innova advertises: a really nice fairway driver that is very straight at first and always dependable with a strong fade and even possibly a skip at the end of its flight. Many people love Thunderbirds. I personally use my beat in Felon which flies like a Thunderbird should. This it is a disc with “bird” in it’s name so it is bound to be good as all of the “bird” discs from Innova tend to be fan favorites. 154 people have rated the Thunderbird 4.68 STARS
  9. DestroyerFlight Numbers = 12, 5, -1, 3 – This is one of the best distance drivers ever made and one that a lot of pros absolutely love. If you are not an advanced player you likely won’t get the amazing S-flight out of this disc that pros do because of its high speed of 12, but you still may like it as your dependable overstable distance driver. If you can throw far then you probably already bag this disc or you should at least try it to see if you love it as much as the pros do. Personally, my noodle arm prefers a Wraith, but if you really can’t get over your ego and “need” to bag a destroyer, then I recommend you get one in the base DX plastic so you can beat it in to be more usable and understable quickly. If you have a big arm and can bag a Destroyer even more power to you! 271 people have rated the Destroyer at 4.65 STARS
  10. SidewinderFlight Numbers = 9, 5, -3, 1 – the Sidewinder is one of my favorite discs and one that I heavily relied on for max distance in the woods. It is great for hyzer flips that go very far and straight but don’t finish too hard. I really love the Sidewinder and if you keep reading in the list below you’ll see it is my 2nd all-time favorite Innova mold. Some advanced players with more power love this for a roller disc, but I think the majority of people can get some really good air shots with this disc. It is my recommendation for a fairway driver if you’re a beginner as you likely won’t have the arm speed to utilize the “birds” as much. 68 people give the Sidewinder 4.63 STARS

What are the best Innova discs for beginners and players with lower arm-speeds?

Some of the discs in the fan-favorite list above are too stable for beginners to be able to use. If you are a beginner or like me and have a slower arm speed, then you may find this top 10 list more helpful. These are my 10 favorite Innova molds:

Top 10 Innova Discs for Beginners

  1. ShrykeFlight Numbers = 13, 6, -2, 2 – If you have a big arm this disc might be too understable for you, but for beginners this disc can be a cheat code that can give you an extra 30-50 feet (10-15 meters). The Shryke is by far my most favorite disc to throw from Innova and the one I get my max distance with. In my opinion this is the best innova disc for beginners that can throw at least 250 feet (or 76 meters). It turns quite a bit even for my slower arm, and it has the equal amount of fade back as it slows down. If it’s a wide open shot, then I love watching this move through a very wide “S” curve and hope for a forward skip at the end. Usually, due to the extremely wide rim it does like to skip that extra few feet I desperately need! The wide rim can be hard to hold and get used to, but if you can manage to grip it the extra width really helps the disc move faster through the air and give you that extra distance. I recommend you give it a try if you can throw over 250 ft (76 m). If you are under that max distance, then you probably won’t get enough high-speed turn out of this disc to find it as helpful. You can always try and see if this disc is useful an either grow into it as your arm speed improves and/or as you beat it in to be even more understable.
  2. SidewinderFlight Numbers = 9, 5, -3, 1 – Both of the Sidewinders I had were extremely durable and pretty neutral in Innova’s Champion plastic. They were really my work horses until I lost them both. I am in desperate need to replace this in my bag. I like both the Kastaplast Falk and the Sidewinder as my all-time favorite 9 speed neutral/understable fairway drivers. This disc gave me great distance but without needing lots of air space. The hyzer flip flight path of this disc made it my go-to if I needed distance in the woods. You can get pretty straight and far flights out of it, and I just really enjoy this disc. I personally have not found it to be as understable as the flight numbers suggest, but there is always variation when it comes to specific discs from different manufactured runs. The Sidewinders I’ve had have flown more like a 9, 5, -2, 1. My favorite thing about this disc is that in Innova’s Champion plastic it seemingly is invincible. I had one for almost a year and the flight seemingly didn’t change despite me hitting A LOT of trees. If you throw 250-350 feet I think you’ll love this disc.
  3. RolloFlight Numbers = 5, 6, -4, 1  – This disc is so much fun! It is extremely touchy and hard to get the desired flight out of it, but that is what makes it so much fun. I think this can be a really helpful disc for beginners because it can help you learn how to hyzer flip, it can help you learn how to throw roller, and it can teach you how to control power and ease off on your power on this disc to get different flights out of it. Do yourself a favor and get a Rollo! It probably will be the most understable disc in your bag and one you’ll love to throw. The biggest con to this disc is that it seems to beat in very quickly and get even more understable within a month. That’s still fun though!
  4. Leopard Flight Numbers = 6, 5, -2, 1 – You may already be familiar with this discs as it is the fairway driver that comes in Innova’s 3-disc starter set. If not, let me say this is a great first fairway driver for you to try. It is understable, but not too understable that it is touchy and hard to aim.  This disc flies great for beginners and players with slower arms, but if you are more advanced you may want to consider one of the “birds” from Innova: teebird, teebird3, or thunderbird.
  5. Mako3Flight Numbers = 5, 5, 0, 0 – This is one of the straightest midranges, if not THE straightest midrange you can get. If you throw this disc level without too much power it will go on a tightrope 200 feet. This can be extremely helpful disc to have in the woods to split tight gaps. It is a bit deep feeling in the hand so I prefer the Latitude 64 Fuse which also is pretty straight, but if you don’t mind a little deeper feeling disc then you probably will fall in love with this amazing disc.
  6. MambaFlight Numbers = 11, 6, -5, 1 – I only have one of these and it isn’t as understable as the disc suggests. Instead it is slightly understable but the wide rim helps it go fast and far for me. I get a little turn with a dependable fade. If you are a noodle arm like me then I recommend this as a possible max distance driver that is controllable enough to be accurate with it. For me it flies like a Wraith flies should. I think depending on the disc you may get some that are very understable. Either way beginners can find a use for this fast disc. I recommend trying it before a Wraith to see how it flies for you.
  7. RocFlight Numbers = 4, 4, 0, 3 – this is a classic disc and one of the most popular in the sport for good reason. Most simply stated it is one of the best innova discs ever made! It is so good that it almost 30 years after its invention it is still in a lot of disc golfers bags across the world. Some parties are divided between the Discraft Buzzz and the Innova Roc as all-time greatest disc (let alone greatest midrange). It is also #2 in the list above as one of the highest-rated Innova discs by fans. The Roc has a bead on it so I personally prefer the beadless Buzzz, but the Roc does have an amazing flight that I actually prefer over the Buzzz. You’ll get a bit of high-speed turn out of the Roc for extra distance, but always a really nice dependable fade at the end. Once the bead wears off a bit you can get even straighter and longer flights out of it. I recommend trying it in the base DX plastic so you can beat it in quickly to find a amazing flight. If you fall in love with it, then you can get it in a more premium plastic which will take longer to beat into that perfect flight, but then will stay at that perfect flight for longer.
  8. PigFlight Numbers =4, 1, 0, 3 – the Pig is one of my favorite approach discs. Some people love the thumb track on top, but some people don’t. I actually prefer it to the feel of the Berg, but I like that the Berg has “anti-lift”. So, I can put more power on the Berg and get the same distance. I find this very helpful for forehands, but the Pig also does great forehand because a lot of the weight is in the outer rim making it very torque resistant and great for forehands. Give it a try and it may be your go-to approach disc for both forehand and backhand.
  9. WraithFlight Numbers = 11, 5, -1, 3 – to be honest the Wraith might be too stable for beginners, but it isn’t as stable as a Destroyer. So, if you are a big Innova fan and have to have one of the two, start with the Wraith. It is very similar to the Destroyer, but the rim is one speed slower/thinner. This makes it possible to get a littler turn before a big dependable fade and feels a little more comfortable in your hand at the same time which helps you not release it early (have it slip from your grip). If you do look for a Wraith, I recommend trying one with lots of dome. This will make it have more high-speed turn. The flat one I have is not usable for me because it fades immediately and doesn’t go very far at all. My Wraith with more dome gets a little turn before fading and is usable. The flay one I have is too beefy for me to use. In my humble opinion, the Wraith is one of the best Innova discs ever made.
  10. RoadrunnerFlight Numbers = 9, 5, -4, 1 – The road Runner can be a hyzerflip master for you with its -4 turn! Being a 9-speed newer players should defintely try this out as one of their first long bombers.  I’ve seen big Jerm (the pro disc golfer Jeremy Koling) get some amazing flights out of the roadrunner. If he can use it with his professional power then I’m sure us regular disc golfers can also utilize this very understable disc. Give the roadrunner a try. If you don’t bag it at least it will be a ton of fun to throw. I have the feeling you’ll bag it at least as your very understable utility disc if nothing else.
